4 Steps to Managing your Social Media

Posting successfully on social media to attract followers is an ever evolving, massive undertaking. While I enjoy creating for social media, managing all of my assets and deciding when to post is challenging! I am always working on finding new ways to get organized and focused.

Read on for four of my best tips.

#1 Do Your Research

Think about your page, blog, or business. What are your goals? Your visions? This is the first step in knowing who you are and what you might want to post about. Who is your audience? You can identify all of these answers first, for your own business.

Next, look at the broader scene. What are people searching online to find businesses like yours? I like to do an exercise where I ask myself: “If I needed this product or service, what would I type into Google?” Start there!

#2 Have Fun Creating Content

This is my favorite part. GO WILD. Make sure your brand appears in your photos and graphics, but don’t be afraid to try new things. What do I mean by that? Make sure your brand’s logo or colors are included in some (or all) of your graphics. Make sure that your photos show your work, projects, friends, and yourself.

For Instagram especially, before you post, think about what hashtags you should post along with your image. This step is critical to gaining new followers and stirring up engagement. I’ll dive deeper into that in another blog post.

For this Lesser Evil Snacks campaign I created a variety of images, all with similar colors and tones. Lesser Evil wanted an autumn campaign, so I tied in falling leaves, sweaters and staying warm indoors.

Because I posted three images to my feed, I was able to see which were most popular and which garnered the most engagement. I’ll talk more about this, below.

#3 Schedule those Babies

It feels really good to finally schedule the content you worked so hard to create. Inside of the Facebook business manager, you can schedule your posts to publish automatically or set them up as drafts if you’re still working on them. There are also many apps available to help you plan your Facebook and Instagram feed. I’ve tried out Buffer, Unum and Planoly to work on my Instagram game.

#4 Analyze

Are you getting any likes, comments or feedback? (We call this “engagement”!) Even if not, that’s okay! Posting on social media is an awesome learning experience. Trial and error is part of the game. As you grow and communicate with your followers and friends, you’ll find what works and what doesn’t. Keep at it! You got this!
